English Standard Version
Oh sing to the Lord a new song;
sing to the Lord, all the earth!
Sing to the Lord, bless his name;
tell of his salvation from day to day.
World English Bible
Sing to Yahweh a new song!
Sing to Yahweh, all the earth.
Sing to Yahweh!
Bless his name!
Proclaim his salvation from day to day!
Observation
Psalm 96:1-2 is a call to action. All the earth is encouraged to praise the Lord (Jehovah/Yahweh) – and to sing unto Him not just any song but a new song. All creation is to bless His name and be a daily testament of His salvation.
Takeaway
This psalm reminds us that our worship to God should not become routine or monotonous. We ought not to merely repeat phrases or practiced words of praise to God out of habit or because it is what custom says we should do in such situations. Each day the Lord gives us is new. This alone should be enough to bring fresh, sincere gratitude and praise from our lips.
